Our Programme

Where will we build when there’s nothing left to build on?

The Graduate Development Programme is designed with one aim in mind: to create innovative, solutions-driven business leaders for the future.

Barratt currently has around 450 developments in the UK, in locations from Aberdeen to Plymouth. But we’re already convinced that our Graduate Programme may well be our best development yet.

Overview

Our Graduate Development Programme is a new programme and a truly significant development for us. We see this as the perfect time to bring new graduates into our industry. As attitudes change and customers look for different solutions, there are opportunities to challenge traditional thinking, introduce new ideas and develop commercially-minded, solutions-focused managers for the future.

Nationwide, we’re looking for over 50 talented individuals each year who want to be a part of our future. Our Programme is designed to give you a two-year foundation for a great career. There is a comprehensive induction programme from the moment you join. Ongoing support from mentors, coaches and a buddy system will be provided. There are also Development Modules covering a range of skills and opportunities to rotate around the business.

Key Features

Our Graduate Development Programme is a two year scheme offering places across Construction, Land, Technical, Surveying, Sales and Finance. Whichever you choose, you'll benefit from a series of modules that will see you working at the cutting edge of our industry, tackling its most pressing issues.

At the heart of our Development Programme is a rotational element that gives every graduate exposure to every aspect of our organisation. So even if you join us with a preference for construction, you will still develop rounded skills that enhance your potential to impact on our organisation in the future.

Each graduate will start and complete their rotation in their intended department. In Year 1, you will cover all disciplines from Land, Technical and Commercial, to Construction, Finance and Sales, gaining an overview of each area, how they interact with each other, and how our organisation works.

In Year Two, longer rotations will help you develop a specific skill set in your chosen discipline. During the two year programme, there will be an opportunity to support a volunteer activity in your local community, and for some of our graduates, perhaps get involved in a volunteer project abroad.

After two years, you'll be full of practical ideas to meet complex modern industry challenges and real opportunities for progression within our organisation. A graduate with a qualification relevant to the programme you choose, you should also have a real interest in having a huge, practical impact on our future.

Entry requirements

We’re looking for graduates to work in Land, Construction, Technical, Commercial, Sales and Finance, as well as to join our Group Office function. So while an interest in building and construction is useful, it is also important to remember that not every role here has a technical element.

You must have a qualification relevant to the programme you choose, although we do have an option for people to join a General Management programme where you choose your specific department at the end of the first year.

In Land, we’re looking for graduates to move up quickly into Land Buyer and Land Manager roles, exploring innovative, proactive ways to secure the best locations for new developments.

In Construction, we’re looking for technically minded people who want the challenge of delivering innovative designs in affordable, commercially viable ways.

In Technical & Commercial, we’re looking for people who want to take a strategic view of how we manage sites more effectively, acquire materials more efficiently and incorporate innovative design styles into our products.

In Sales, we’re looking for people who can build long-term customer partnerships, empathising with home buyers and ensuring the experience of buying their home is memorable.

In Finance, we’re looking for people who want to be more than just number crunchers. Financial information is critical to the success of every development, so financial professionals are in high demand.

In Group Office, we’re looking for people who want to move into Head Office roles at the heart of a complex, varied operation. Your role could be within Secretariat, Finance, Sales & Marketing, IT or HR. But in every case, you will emerge from the Programme as a professional with broad business knowledge. You’ll want to be more than just a specialist. You will want to gain exposure to varied projects, different challenges and wider business decision-making.
