Our Business

We don’t just think vertically. We think laterally too.

We haven’t become Britain’s best known house builder by simply building on the same old formula. We’re recognised for our desire to lead the way in how our industry changes, develops and grows. On issues such as land acquisition, affordability, energy and environmental concerns, we’re determined to think laterally, think freely and develop practical, commercially viable housing solutions.

Our Culture

Thinking laterally is what we do on a daily basis. As our customers look for different, more individual housing solutions, we are building our own reputation as an organisation that develops innovative designs, embraces new materials, technologies and ideas, and that sees the broader picture in terms of the environment and local communities.

That’s why we think we can offer new graduates a different experience. You see, our future isn't simply in selling bricks and mortar - it's in developing a landscape that offers affordable homes, award winning designs and remarkable locations. It suits graduates who want to grow a complete portfolio of skills. You can develop leading-edge technical awareness here. You can build your people management skills and sharpen your commercial edge. You can bring your own ideas to the table, challenging convention and driving change.

All in all, you’ll be able to develop into an effective business manager who can help lead us forward in the future.

Our Developments

A quick look at some of our developments shows exactly what sort of direction we’re moving in. We’re an organisation exploring every opportunity to stand out, innovate and take our place at the forefront of industry thinking.

Take our new i-Pad developments. As first-time buyers look for affordable options, we’ve unveiled a uniquely styled city centre apartment that uses space in creative ways to complement busy, urban living. It is already an award-winning concept, with i-pads making their mark in cities throughout the country.

At the other end of the scale is our Chorley EcoVillage. This is a development of seven houses that incorporates a whole raft of energy saving, environmentally friendly technologies that could be the future of house building. Photovoltaic panels, rainwater harvesting, wind turbines, geothermal energy and wildlife habitats all formed part of the overall planning vision.

Land acquisition and green belt development is a critical and high profile issue for the house building industry. We believe that developments should be sustainable. Therefore, we are committed to developing reclaimed, derelict and abandoned sites which helps to protect the green belt and regenerate local communities. In fact, over 85% of our new developments are ‘brownfield’ regeneration projects.

Awards

Barratt is an award-winning organisation. But what really makes us proud is that we win such a diverse range of awards. Awards for innovation. Awards for product development. Awards for design, for environmental initiatives, for conversions. In fact, in recent years, we’ve won virtually every major industry award. It shows both the breadth of our thinking and the depth of our talent.
